HOW THEY ARE BEING HELPED: As seen in the video to the right, humans assist in getting as many sea turtles as possible to the ocean without having a predator harm them before they enter the ocean. This increases the amount of sea turtles in the ocean that could possibly mature and reproduce resulting in a population increase. Green sea turtle nests are also protected once the mother lays the eggs. This prevents humans from destroying these nests and protects the nests from predators looking for their next meal.
POPULATION ESTIMATE: World wide population numbers (and Biscayne national Park numbers) for sea turtle species do not exist but rather an estimated world wide population based on nesting females is used to predict green sea turtle population. (3) This estimated number is between 85,000 and 90,000 nesting females and should continue to increase based on conservation efforts and research. (3)
